Pressure Washing
Before diving into any exterior painting project, we thoroughly clean the surface with TSP, bleach and water mixture, to destroy any lingering mildew or mold. We use the appropriate cleaners and nozzles for the job, and then we power wash, allowing surfaces to dry for as long as they require. Southern Painting will never power wash and paint in the same day.

Our Five-Step Exterior Painting Process
Exterior house painting is a multi-step process. Many people watch DIY home improvement shows but don’t realize that using the wrong products can harm their property or that painting without proper preparation or tools can cause many problems. You can count on Southern Painting’s Five-Step Exterior Process protects your property.
Power Washing
Before we begin exterior painting, your home must be cleaned of filth, mildew, algae, and cobwebs. Power washing is a key step in prepping the home for exterior painting and ensures appropriate paint adhesion. Our exterior painting teams will treat your home with bleach and water to kill mold and mildew. We use the suitable cleansers and nozzles, then let surfaces dry.
Scraping and Minor Wood Repair
Loose paint must be removed after power washing to ensure appropriate adhesion and longevity. Knives and wire brushes are used to scrape away peeling, bubbling, or loose paint. This results in a smooth paint surface. Most loose boards may be repaired by our skilled exterior painting professionals. At Southern Painting, we will always clean up after ourselves!
Priming
With the prep work done, your home will be ready for priming. Our painting contractors cover all exposed surfaces with premium bonding primers to ensure optimal adhesion of new finish-coat products.
Wood, metal, water stains, rust, and new carpentry are primed. Plywood surfaces will be primed with a specialty primer to reduce weather cracking.
Caulking and Glazing
We caulk seams, cracks, nail holes, and wood joints. Any loose glazing is replaced to ensure a tight seal and eliminate air leaks and moisture entrance sites. We use siliconized latex caulk for all exterior entrances, structural joints, and wood windows.
Painting or Staining
We recommend using color samples to ensure you’ll like the colors you chose for your home’s exterior paint color. Our Customer Service Managers will bring fan decks so you can look at different options. Sherwin-Williams®, Benjamin Moore®, and PPG Pittsburgh Paints® are the only brands used by Southern Painting. During the estimate, you will be informed about the various painting and staining options, their purposes, and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
