Ask The Painter: Will you do an Estimate by Phone?
June 23, 2010Getting a quote from someone who has never seen your home is like buying a car without a test drive.
You wouldn’t buy a car without taking it for a test drive first, would you? A test drive is the only way to know if the vehicle meets your needs — do you have adequate leg and head room, are the seats comfortable, are the controls easy to reach, does it perform to expectations, etc?
So too it is with getting a quote for having your home painted. Southern Painting Estimators are trained to look for many details and ask about your wants and needs in getting your home painted. These “unseen” factors can have a lot of bearing on not only the quoted price, but more importantly your painting experience and ultimate satisfaction. At Southern Painting, we feel that the only way to give an accurate quote for painting work is to look at the job details and to discuss homeowners’ needs with them.
We frequently get calls asking “What do you charge per square foot to paint the interior of my home?”. Like most things with painting, the answer is “It depends”. For instance, wall height (higher walls mean more to paint and higher “degree of difficulty” in the case of very high walls), presence or absence of trim such as chair rails, “picture frame” molding, crown molding (and size of crown molding), number of doors (and height and type of doors), existing color, desired color (extra coats may be needed), need for repairs, and desired use (do we need to upgrade to premium or “specialty” paints for durability or other reasons) are only some of the factors involved in developing an accurate quote. With exteriors, contributing factors include accessibility, condition of existing paint, any needed repairs, possible color changes, desired life expectancy of new paint, etc.
